About Broken Back
Just when you thought the world didn’t have room for another charming, quirky French musician, Broken Back comes along and you have to surrender. Broken Back combines the best of two very different worlds – folky guitars and warm campfire vocals with storming, tropical, house-infused live beats – he’s featured on Klingande’s RIVA (Restart The Game) – to create fresh, vibrant tunes.
Standing behind the name is Jerome, a French songwriter with a producer’s touch, who learnt to sing and play guitar after he broke his back in 2012. His beautiful debut EP Dear Misfortune, Mother of Joy has been followed up by Halcyon Birds. He’s squeezed in this gig between The Great Escape and a show at the Norfolk & Norwich Festival – don’t miss it!
M.A. BEAT! open the show. They’re a fantastic French band who love what they call ‘English electronic artists’ – people like Caribou, James Holden and FourTet. They combine orchestral sounds and African rhythms – Radio Nova described them as ‘drums dancing in your head – real beauty, smart music without being nerdy, at the crossroads of Tortoise and Fakear’. Their first cassette is out now on Brighton’s Headcount label.
