About Papooz
This is a rescheduled event. All tickets from the original 27th June date remain valid.
With new music due later this year, Papooz announce their biggest UK show to date at Scala. Sweet melodies, swaying pop rhythms with an exotic French vibe, Papooz popped up in spring 2015.
It all started from literature reunions, where friends could bring friends and talk around few glasses. It was love at first sight for Ulysse and Armand who decided to create their own political fanzine. But realising after a few meetings it was too much of a long shot, they quickly decided to turn those reunions into songwriting sessions.
Surprisingly, those tuned voices originate from Paris. In their twentyish, Ulysse and Armand both grew up with 70s music, digging in their parent’s records collection, from The Beach Boys to The Velvet Underground. Singing in the high notes, is it a girl or a boy? Where do they come from? It sounds like British pop with Bossa Nova nonchalance.
No wonder why they became best friends, sharing the same curiosity for hidden artists
from this time. They recorded their first demos on a computer mic and called themselves Papooz. They liked the way this tropical tone sounded and the recollection of a Native American tribe’s cradle.
