Convergence joins forces with Continental Drifts to present an exhilarating bill in the determined spirit of the Arab Spring with 47SOUL and Cairo Liberation Front leading the way in producing new sounds drawing on diverse Arabic influences.

cvg_17_47_soul_ad_1080px_v2 cvg_17_cairo-liberation-front_ad_1080px_v2The music of 47SOUL combines Dabke, the traditional Palestinian street music and dance, with deep electronic beats mixed with sounds of the Middle East. Taking these sounds to the dance floor with analog synthesisers, dub-effects and trance inducing guitar lines, their lyrics delivered in tripped-out verses by four singers in a mixture of Arabic and English, call for freedom of movement on global dance floors and across border checkpoints. A celebration of freedom and the struggle for equality around the world.

Cairo Liberation Front are Electro Cha3bi pioneers. Electro cha3bi comes from the popular neighbourhoods of Cairo. Using cracked software; they make a heady mix of Arabic rhythms, American hip-hop and European dance music. Like Omar Souleyman meeting Sean Paul and Aphex Twin at a wedding party, it has the live power of punk rock shows and early house parties. On stage the avant-garde Cairo Liberation Front perform a highly energetic set with a DJ and an MC.
