DESCRIPTION:Braids are a three-piece experimental pop band from Montreal.\n
 \nTo record their third album\, Deep In The Iris\, Braids decamped to a se
 ries of retreats in the mountains of Arizona\, Vermont\, and upstate New Y
 ork. Surrounded by nature in all its warm vitality\, the longtime bandmate
 s strove to shed the fabric of their day to day relationships\, being bare
  and vulnerable before one another. What resulted is Deep In The Iris\, th
 eir strongest record to date – powerful\, yet fragile\; immaculately scu
 lpted\, but deeply human.\n\nDriven by roomy acoustic instrumentation and 
 tasteful electronics\, Deep In The Iris is easily Braids’ sunniest and m
 ost immediate record. While the icy\, airless production of their second a
 lbum Flourish // Perish suited the songs' inward gaze\, the widescreen war
 mth and full-bodied punch of Deep In The Iris are the perfect complement t
 o its unflinching lyricism.\n\nRaphaelle Standell has always had a formida
 ble voice but rarely has it sounded as vital\, focused\, and powerful as i
 t does here. True to the process that birthed it\, the record explores a n
 umber of heavy subjects\, including pornography\, abuse\, and slutshaming.
  Standell's emotional vulnerability becomes a triumphant weapon in its own
  right: scything through wrongdoing and shame with equal aplomb\, and clea
 ring the way for the many others who will find resonance in the bravery of
  these lyrics. Written from a place of inspiring strength and unblinking l
 ucidity\, the lyricism of this record is a cathartic gift.\n\nLongtime fri
 ends\, Braids was formed in 2007 in Calgary\, AB. After relocating to Mont
 real\, the band released their critically acclaimed debut Native Speaker i
 n 2011\, and its 2013 follow-up Flourish // Perish. Consisting of Raphaell
 e Standell\, Austin Tufts\, and Taylor Smith\, Braids are a collaborative 
 whole\, emphasizing a collective creative experience.\n\nGwilym Gold - Fro
 m being the man at the front of Golden Silvers\, to inventing the still-ah
 ead-of-its-time generative music format Bronze – with his remarkable sev
 en-song suite Tender Metal – Gwilym is now ready to remove the mask with
  a record on which he finally defines himself as an artist\; A Paradise\, 
 to be released in August.\n\nMuch of A Paradise was composed by Gwilym alo
 ne at home at the piano\, before he took the songs to co-producer and long
 time collaborator Lexxx (Wild Beasts\, Fatima Al Qadiri\, Darkstar). The t
 wo then spent the best part of a year together in a small room in Konk Stu
 dios\, London\, toiling on this extended labour of love. There are also co
 -production contributions from James Young of Darkstar\, True Panther arti
 st Hyetal and Bullion\, whilst four songs feature composer Nico Muhly’s 
 verdant\, dizzying string arrangements.
